another good example is blue planet. the first ed was a backyard labour of love. a whole detailed background, rules everything in one text laden book. THen a card company aquired the game took the same text (mostly) and spread it over 4 hardbacks and added 'comic book' graphics that didn't match the serious gritty setting but would appeal to 14 years olds with money to burn
