Azhur thought about Aalmon’s remarks, listenened then to Wilkairtha and told:
- “ You’re right with the Castle of Seguarane: it isn’t the best place for the telmori and I was certainly thinking as an *iron-clad disciplined soldier*… but I still think that this place has a role to play in our plans… if western soldiers so feel concerned with this castle, so will be the vampires of Nolos, not telling about the seshnelan knights there, as Wilkairtha mentioned.”

Azhur turned directly to Aalmon:
- “You will probably find me stubborn, but I was trained by my teachers to try harder any time I failed, so let me propose you a more subtile version of my last proposal, respecting more the wishes of all here: The telmori stay in the wood to harass the vampires as they advance, leading them in the direction of the Castle. Kalen and *who can help him* try an other disposal of the fat king of Seshnela, but better prepared this time. I go also there and try to decide the rest of seshnelan knighthood to join us as reinforcements against the vampires. We also call for the help of Arolanit and the experience of their Grand Talar. If we succeed this, we have the beginning of a malkioni alliance against Theoblanc and a lot of witnesses of the existence of the vampires. We can march against Theoblanc, exposing the reasons of our union, cutting him from the base of his own church as we cross his lands, undermining his powers without putting to despair all the
rokari believers by some… hmmm… let’s say… immoral trick of seduction.”

He sighed nervously:
- “Isn’t it more acceptable? Has someone an other plan?”

Scene 43: Wilkairtha's Strategic WIthdrawal and
Icthya's Discussion

Wilkairtha's listens attentively to the many and
various comments of the Fellowship. "I am not one
usually to take advice from strangers, least of those
who carry a banner of an ancient enemy. But the first
rule of military endeavours is flexibility. In this
case, it is clear that some of you are skilled in
warfare, others skilled in avoiding warfare, one
claims to have the means to prevent our accursed
state, and others still represent the forest where I
wish to take refuge. All in all, I must try to combine
your advice in a manner that is best for my people and
which will help defeat the army of the Undead."

"With the permission of the Aldryami, I wish to take
refuge further in the forest. It is true that the
Vampires and their allies will find it most difficult
to cross the waters of the Deu, the Nidan and the
Tanier. If the Aldryami themselves wish to engage the
Undead forces and can protect this forest with the
same skills I have witnessed in the past, then our
situation will improve greatly. We are significantly
outnumbered."

"The City of Seguarane itself is not somewhere where
the Telmori would necessarily feel comfortable. But it
is my understanding that there is still some three
thousand inhabitants held out there, the elite of the
old Kingdom of Seshnela, their best wizards and
knights, albeit still under the command of their King,
whose only skills are assasination and debauchery. If
somehow the King could be removed, and the Knights and
Wizards swayed to our cause.."

"The Telmori will not engage the Vampire Army on the
eve of their High Holy Night. We shall retreat into
the forest, cross the Deu and the Nidan, and make camp
again behind those two rivers. The effects of Talor's
Curse (at which point he shoots a glance at Anzhur,
the banner holder) would have worn off by then, but so
too will the extra powers of the Undead."

"Wilkairtha calls over a young Telmori and his
Wolf-brother and presents him to the Fellowship. "This
is Knarl Talonrake, one of the best scouts and hunters
among my forces. Knarl, I want you to investigate the
campsite of the Vampire's Army; return to the forest
was you've ascertained the number and movements.
Observe any rituals that they engage in their High
Holy Night - and don't get caught. We need you alive
more than I need that information. Go now."

As the campsite prepares to move, the Aldryami Icthya
went north to visit the River Deu, whereupon she found
a place to talk to its spirit. "Great River", she
spoke, "we of the Aldryami have brought you this
forest and this harmony. You are now, once again, part
of the natural world and a provider of free growth. I
am Icthya of Erontree. Long have I been a friend of
the natural waters and the beings that live within
your embrance."

"But what I ask now requires great sacrfice: an army
of undead approaches, who will destroy this new
beauty. I require a dam; a temporary holding of force
that can wash away the Undead with you holy waters.
Can you accede to this? Forever more, the elves of
Segurane Forest, should the Forest live, will worship
the river as its Father (or Mother) and they will sing
to you eternally?"

[I'm not sure whether Icthya has any appropriate
abilities here; Aldrya Tradition Knowledgeseems most
appropriate at 17, and probably can be augmented with
Fishy! Fishy! magic (+2), and Heal Water (+2). along
with a circumstantial modifier of +5. So a total of
6W. This competes however with going against the
River's entire nature, even if it is for a good cause
which is probably the equivalent of a community's
Total Support (the river is, I suppose, a community) -
so that's 20W. Die rolls are 8 (fail, bump to success)
for Icthya and 12 (success, bump Icthya to a fail) for
the river. The River is currently rejecting Icthya's
request to be dammed. It's just not the sort of thing
she'd like; and besides you'd have to damn her from
the West, i.e., more in the open region. It'll be very
hard and doesn't seem practical. However, if you spend
a Hero Point that will convert the result to a
success]

[Other things to initially roleplay out from this
scene that aren't directly mentioned:

- Kalen's release of the messanger bazak and the
collection of twenty deer. (I presume you are doing
this? You'll probably have to talk to the Elves)
- Karala explaining to Wilkairtha how the medicine
works.
- Aalmon setting up Baros to seduce Theoblanc (you
guys are crazy!)]
