With Azhur Sinnersbance completing the test of
Liturgist of the Battle Seers, the fellowship left Sog
City in high spirits. They followed the
Vice-Chancellor's advice and travelled for four days
on horse, first to Salona, then in Salisor in Junora
where the people, much fearful, were preparing
defenses; and from Salisor, into Jonatela to the court
of Okarnia. In each local the venturers well received
among the noble and rulers, as news of their quest had
spread quickly among the lands of the free and brave.
On the fourth day from Okarnia the party travelled
east then turned south, studiously avoiding the
strange grey mist of lands that continued to be under
the Syndics Ban. During the afternoon they could see
across the plains the rising Nidan Mountains, among
the most mighty of Genertala, and home to the greatest
of Dwarven kingdoms, the Nidan Decamony. A trial led
towards the mountains, obviously to the High Llama
Pass, the only pass for hundreds of miles in either
direction and once called the Wolves' High Pass, when
it was a centre of Telmori power.
It was Icthya who first heard and felt it: As the
light of Yelm faded into the west*, illuminating the
grazing lands of Jonatela, a rumbling could be held in
the distance, from the mountains, so loud that it
sounded like Orlanth himself had come, yet there were
no clouds in the sky.
Then it was clear; a dozen of one of the most
remarkable creatures from the Godtime, the Grotaron.
Almost four times as tall as a man, but without a head
and a third arm growing from their neck would be, and
with an enormous mouth across their torso and a bright
yellow eye on the back of each of their hands; and
they carried with them enormous bows. These creatures
flanked lightly armoured long-lancers, who rode
enormous camels, who were as tall as the Grotaron
themselves.
"Alticameluses", whispered Kalen, "the high llamas
from Prax and Pent. How do you think the pass got it's
name?"
The High Llama Guards require payment for travel
through the pass. The stated price is exhoribitant,
like most things here. Only Donalari, Azhur, and
Aalmon have sufficient funds. Kalen of course is only
required to make a token payment. How do you respond?
* Umm, the sun does set in the west in Glorantha,
doesn't it?
