Objet : [HQ Ignorance] Scene 21: Escape to Syran!

Hidden in the foliage, the hero-trollkikn one called
Beast felled scounts of the Telmori; five times he
shot with his bow, using his minions to distract the
great numbers of the Telmori and their canine allies.
Gradually he fell back among the main body of the
Fellowship in trollkin form, where the mounted Anzhur
stood prepared for their charge and Kalen with Mostal
weaponary.

As the rest of the Fellowship fell back to the water's
edge. The Aldryami, Icthya summoned and spoke to the
fishes, recalling to them their friendship of old and
the direness of their situation. She sought to
construct log rafts, or some other means to aid the
escape of the fellowship. The rainbow and brown trout,
however, disagreed. "This would take much Time", they
said, "and Time you do not have. Besides, such woods
are uncommon here; let us gather the numerous reeds
and ferns beside the shore and make rafts from you
kinfolk"

In the mean, the Telmori advanced further. Anzhur, the
mounted trollkin, initially charged the largest of the
Telmori, bringing the unamoured primitive down. The
rune-tatooed warrior howled feriously in his death
throes and wrenched the heavy lance from Anzhur's
grasp. Turning to his use of his True Silver Sword and
shield, Anzhur Trollkin foughtly bravely and against
great numbers. Along with war stallion, Anzhur is
supported by his squire Othor.

Despite Anzhur's valour, a number of Telmori did break
through towards the escaping members of the
Fellowship. Kalen The Mostal trollkin used a holy hand
grenade to break the charging mass, causing several
casulties and causing many others to flee. One in
particular continued on his path, to whit Kalen fired
the Mostal flintlock and felling him.

But still they came in great numbers; eventually the
"Trollkin" saw need to flee. When they arrived by the
riverside, the found the Fellowship already standing
on small bundles of reeds which were being pulled by
great numbers of trout, even Aalmon Far Rider's mount
was among them. "Board upon these vessels", said
Icthya, "for a piscene allies have granted us great
aid at this moment".

The "trollkin" did indeed mount the reed-rafts, with
the exception of the Mostal; for they were people of
stone and would sink as such. They disliked water and
distrusted the rafts. With little time, eventually
they convinced Kalen to hold on to the rafts as a
flotation device. But Torsten would not go: "It is my
role to stay and protect your escape. There is sadness
in my heart for the Telmori were once my friend, but
now I must combat them. Go now! And complete your
quest!"

The Fellowship surfed down the river towards the Syran
with its towers of coloured glass gradually coming in
view. Fisherfolk looked in wonder at the spectacle of
the group coming towards the town with their school of
pescatoreal assistance. The wild eyes of the
heroquesters gradually failed as they returned to the
mundane plane.

Spirit, pagan or monotheist, myths however are the
core of Glorantha and none, not even the Gods, can
break them, although they can be bent as the
circumstances require. "Death to the trollkin" was not
just a story, but it was part of the very fabric of
the world of Glorantha itself; and so deaths must
occur. The one called Beast was amazed to discover
that, upon return to the Mundane Plane he was *still*
a trollkin. For Anzhur, the death was to his psyche;
he found that his belief in the Invisible God alone
was fundamentally shaken, such were his experiences;
and Kalen wailed at the loss of his childhood friend,
great grief was within his heart. Too him, it was like
the World Machine had been (perhaps temporarily)
broken. Each of the Trollkin, in their own way had
'died'; they were changed forever.

And the Fellowship entered one of the mightest cities
of the great Lake Safelster.
