Estevan listened to the words of Karala with care and
seriousness however, alas, he seemed unmoved.
"When a wild wolf slays the cattle of a human, or even
a wayward child, do not the uncursed children of
Grandfather Mortal lead hunts against our brethren in
hatred? Yet the wolf is doing but what is natural. It
is not so surprising that we also seek revenge against
those who cursed us such? Yet if the weapons of
companions of Talor are brought together the people of
Sog City will have in their hands the very means to
prevent us exacting our just and noble revenge."
"We have no love for the Kingdom of War, and indeed,
our sages would say that it has arisen in Fronela for
a very good reason, like an sickness upon an evil
body. If it challenges us, we shall fight it and we,
with our brethren, shall win. If it seeks to destroy
Loskalm, the Jonatings and such 'beacons' of
civilization, then that brings little concern to us. I
am surprised it brings concern to you."
"I am convinced, however, of the sincerity and
importance that you give to your Quest. Rest assured,
that if and when the Kingdom of War threatens your
people that the wolf-brethren of Telmoria will come to
your aid, and we shall call upon all our brethren
across the lands to do likewise." [This is the result
of the various persuasion skills and the expenditure
of a Hero Point]
"In the meantime however, you shall have to be retired
to secure location. The sun sets, and the Curse
begins. It would not be wise for you to remain among
us."
With that Karala and her wolf were taken to an
underground chamber of four cells; two of which were
empty. In the cell next to hers she espied an an aged
Telmori woman, who introduced herself as Thaneora. He
cell contained some homely trappings; a desk, writing
equipment and books. According to her story, she has
discerned a way of suppressing the Curse through by
abstaining from the consumption of meat, drinking a
potion of rare herbs and adopting a mediative state
during the evening of Wildday. For these reasons, she
is considered a heretic of the faith.
During that night, Karala sees confirmation of her
claims. Whilst above her she hears the howling and
pounding that can only result from a city of several
hundred adopting the form of a wild wolf, Thaneora
remains in her trance throughout the night.
