With promises of better, well-fed days, the bazak led
by Rotterex took the stoneman Mostal through the maze
of secret passages of Seguarane's hill. Noone but the
rats themselves new of these passages, and apart from
Rotterex none could tell. From underneath the
gatehouse of the Inner Keep where the great
wizard-warriors of Seshnela guarded their King, and
then into the tower of his private quarters.
"Here is where we leave you Stoneman", Rotterex
chittered. "Do the work you have to and return within
the hour. We can then lead out the way you came.
Assuming your promises of food and shelter are true."
Kalen gave his leave to the bazak and ventured up the
circular stairs. The inside tower itself seemed
unguarded as Guilmarn the Fat evidently prefered
privacy in his debauchery. Signs of feasting and
loving were evident, most inappropriate for a city
under seige. At one stage Kalen found a
blood-encrusted dagger, evidently one who had fallen
afoul of Guilmarn's notorious temper and plotting.
Along the walls were various potraits of the great
victories of Seshnela over its foes, including one
which has a number of knights and wizards driving back
a horde of wolves led by a strange man dressed in
white carrying a bloody greataxe.
The tower staircase exits into a chapel, lit by
candles, sombre and quiet. Kalen cares not for the
invisible and atheistic god of Seshnela, but is
impressed by the austere stonework. With a bit of
machinery and clockwork, he thinks, it could make a
fine temple to Mostal.
Beyond the chapel lies the King's chamber. Kalen, with
as much caution as a Dwarf can muster, carefully
entered the room. Inside, there was the gentle smell
of incense, an enormous poster bed, covered in white
silk, and fantastic furnishings. Lit by a thousand
candles which seemed to cover every corner of the room
they waver in the gentle breeze that enters the open
window. And in the bed the corpulent body of Guimarn
The Fat lay, breathing heavily with his arms draped
over two young girls barely of age.
