Kalen concentrates and sends his missive through to
the Guardian banner, telling the banner holder that he
is in within the chamber of the King of Seshnela to
bring much food for a clan of bazak.
Many leagues to the west and some time after the
missive is sent, Anzhur has to read the missive twice,
thinking that perhaps the Mostal himself is
temporarily "out of order".
Moving as cautiously as a stone man can, Kalen
Ironhand looks at the corpulent body of the King and
unemotionally considered the psychic state of such a
being. "Clearly broken and due for repair", he mutters
as he drives his axe hard into to the body of the King
(being careful to avoid the young women).
To his shock and horror, the axe bounces from the
King, who wakes up in a start. The young girls scream
in horror and flee the chamber, upturning tables and
pitchers as they go.
The King rises from his bed and surveys the Mostal,
who again strikes at him and again with the blow
bouncing off his side.
"I have survived fifteen asassination attempts in my
time", the King mutters. "Did you seriously think I
would sleep unprotected?"
Not waiting for an answer he mutters words of Power
and a great force knocks Kalen off his feet, a mighty
blow that would surely fell any other being into
unconsciousness. The King appears genuinely surprised
that Kalen did not pass out at this strike, and so
summons eldritch tendrils which wrap themselves around
Kalen Ironhand.
As Kalen shouts insults and empty threats at the King,
he has somehow summoned guards. The heavily sounds of
shod boots come up the stairs and they drag him away.
The last image Kalen remembers is the double-chinned
King smiling wickedly: "You'll be dinner for the
rats!" as he is dragged away and dumped
unceremoniously deep in a dungeon.
