Aalmon's black mood had not lifted since the burial of his brother. He
sat to the side idly twirling the silver amulet of his brother in his
hand as he watched the goings on with cynical amusement.
His gaze wandered over each of the members of the fellowship, of course
none of them would be chosen for this false honour for they were naught
but a rabble of non-humans, primitives and bastards. Azhur had done no
more than any of the others, less than some, yet with his noble blood
and wizardly bearing he was the one chosen for all the honour, whether
it was honestly meant or not. No good putting a bastard puppet on the
throne, that would never do would it.
Or would it.
He looked at Marianne and then back at the amulet of his brother, it
still contained much of his magic within it. Magic that even the first
flush of romance could not resist if wielded properly. There was more
than one way to put a bastard on the throne and if he did it the way of
his deceased brother then the task would be a little more pleasant than
anything in the past days, for she was pretty enough. He twirled the
amulet around a few more times, sensing the seductive power within it,
if the baron wanted to play his twisted little games then why why should
Aalmon not join in with his own.
As for the Baron's plans...he remembered back to his travels and a story
he heard in Dragons Pass. The barbarian princes there kept a very
special bodyguard that was so universally feared and reviled that it
could not be bribed and protected even the weakest of heirs from upstart
barons. His gaze fell to Knarl, yes the wolf-men would make perfect
guardians for the child. Whoever the father really was.
