Deep in Segurane Forest, looking at the thrice-walled
city, the rump of the Fellowship (Jareena, Karala, The
Beast and Anzhur) and the Telmori meet with the
Aldyrami who have laid siege. With the assistance of
the Aldryami, the runners have collected the necessary
herbs to develop the Theonara's concotion that will
put the Telmori into a sedate and meditative state
"treading the woods of Fer" on the night of Wildday,
despite her concerns [Dougie, feel free to contribute
Theonara's point of view if you like].
>From good fortune [and the expenditure of a Hero Point
by Loran] a Seshnelean knight is brought before the
Telmori and the Fellowship by the Aldryami. This one,
they explained, was caught in a dishevelled state on
the southern outskirts of the Forest. He had been
hiding in the woods, burying himself under logs and
feeding on grubs, like a hedgehog. The Knight, hung
his head low in shame.
"I am Aarolin, Knight of the Southern Army of the
Kingdom of Seshnela, and I have seen the Undead Army
of Nolos. The battle was great, but they were more
plentiful than us, and their magic was greater. They
created dissent and discord among our number by
carrying the banners of the Holy Church. Their magics
blasted ours away. The Vampires fell upon the flower
of our force and many a noble young man was drained of
Power only to rise again the following day in a new
and horrid mockery of their former self."
"For two days the battle raged; we used our
maneuverability as best we could, taking down the
militia, confronting their mercenaries, charging their
Undead leadership. But they were strong, too strong,
and eventually our forces were dispersed, scattered
and through sheer weight of numbers they were able to
surround our companies and fall upon them. Malkion
knows how I survived; my steed was wounded and I
fought from the ground as the undead fell upon us. My
own brother was dragged from his horse by a ghoul, and
the animal bolted towards me. I mounted it and saw a
gap in their forces and headed towards it; looking
over my shoulder I watched my brother shredded by
their wicked claws, crying out for me to rescue him as
well."
"I sought the safety of Segurane, but instead I found
this forest. I let the steed go, and took refuge under
the green canopy, but I could not find refuge for the
shame I felt in my soul. You see before you a broken
man; I am Aarolin, former Knight of the Southern Army
of the Kingdom of Seshnela."
