Icthya laughs at the conservatism of the waters. "Of all the beings
on this great Lozenge, the last I would expect to be hidebound and
unwilling to change is one made of water. The very word means change
to my kind. Why, in a few weeks you will merge with a great salty
being called the Sea and will be but another dribble of water adding
to its substance! Then the great cloud gods will call you into the
middle air and you will be borne by one of his sheep, to spy the land
from above and come down where you are most needed.

"All the other water beings will ask you to tell your tale and what
will you say to them? 'I met a plant-woman who asked me to undertake a
great transformation and to glimpse the Green Age. To be there at the
birth of a great new forest and see the end of an age-old kingdom. To
fight against a great evil which was concentrated at my banks and wash
the lands clean.'

"All those other beings will be climbing over eachother to hear how
the tale ended. Even the Sea itself will want to hear. And the cloud
gods will be thinking what a great, and noble being they have called
into their fold, how they must bear you on the mightiest Thunder-rams
and lead you to the sweetest pastures they know. And what will you say
to them?

"'Nah, couldn't be bothered' you say.

"'And the Green Age?' they ask you. 'Dunno, didn't see it', you say. 

"'And the great forest?' they ask. 'Um, it dried out and the trees
died'

"'And the dusty old kingdom?'  'Still dusty', you answer.

"'And the great evil?' they ask. 'Er, it won.', you answer.

"For shame!" Icthya tuts and turns on her heels, ready to leave (just
like in the movies - always works).
