So true. One of the best things about Glorantha's
mythology is that the non-human sentients are so
thoroughly alien to normal human consciousness - which
makes them both difficult and interesting to play.
The Elves think and act like plants - because they are
plants. The Dwarves think and act like collectivist
free-will robots - because that's what they are. The
Dragonnewts think and act like a cross between
ravenous dinosaurs and Chinese mystics.
Perhaps the only species that is "kinda-sorta"
familiar to most roleplayers are the trolls who are in
one sense very similar in their brutishness to
standard Orcs from roleplaying, but also have this
incredibly deep mournful streak with the effects of
the Trollkin curse...
This aside, intra-PC conflict. I think the key here is
to ensure (and I'm sure we're all going to do this) is
that the conflict is between the characters and not
the players. So if you're planning on doing something
wild and crazy which could seriously harm another
character it's probably best to reveal that to the
player before it happens and also - to implement the
"Trollbabe" rule - the player decides on the specifics
of the "bad stuff" that happens to them (the
resolution mechanics determine the general severity,
but not the specifics).
Anyway, back to the story... Those Vampires are
getting hungry ;-)
