Firstly, I must give apologies once again to Damien
who is being incredibly patient! Your character will
come in scene very shortly!
Also, to everyone else. This post has been a long time
coming. For an excuse however I have a good one; last
week I was accepted as a co-author for a new edition
of Rolemaster's Campaign Law. The bad news was I the
deadline to finish the chapter is this Sunday. I have
been spending most of my time working on that.
Anyway, here it is. The long awaited Scene 59!
All the best,
Lev
FELICITATIONS !
I hope you will be inspired...
Don't forget us, as side-games could provide you some ideas, even indirectly and at least relaxing ;-)

Scene 59: Dawn Approaching: The Chaos In Segurane City
(...)
Initially the defense of the dungeons went well for
Azhur and the knights of Segurane. The morale
of some of the knights seemed greated improved as
Azhur bore the herald of the Barony of Gilboch,
and others noted that it also carried the mark of
Marianne. Aided by the rubble rats, who acted as
scouts and guided escape routes, they were able to
easily out-maneuver the undead and their leaders
who knew little of the layout of the place. Great
numbers of the mindless were felled; and even
Vampires were cornered and set to the torch.
With the impetus in favour and with victory in sight,
the remaining Vampires turned the tables.
From dungeons deep and gallows grim, many were those
who had been tortured and killed as heretics
under the rule of the Rokari. Using the magics
provided by Vivamort score of these souls were
summoned and controlled as ghosts who desired nothing
more than to take the revenge by possessing
the folk of Segurane. Jareena was first to recognise
in horror what was occurring, as bodies
fighting the possession contorted and friend turned
upon friend in a bloody orgy of violence.
********************
- "The Great Creator offers us a lesson here, confessed Azhur to his squire Othor and to the reformed rokari knights around him while they were retreating from the newly awaken specters… - Who was cruel, in return will be treated cruelly - In its fight against Sin, the old rokari church relied too much on the suffering of Physical Body against the Joy of Impalpable Essence. We have seen the result of this choice in Theoblanc’s damnation, but even if we have now changed our ways, we will soon be harshly punished for this obvious lack of charity.”
As the enemy was becoming more present and pressing, Azhur gave his orders.
- “Now, an other secret of the Sparrowhawk Order: in desperate situation, organize your forces in the ‘Heart of Weakness’ formation. Regroup the civilians in places you can defend, children in the center, women around to defend the children, old or wounded men around to defend the women. Liturgists will fight the ghosts, soldiers around to defend them and finally valiant knights all around will defend them all, like a single fortress of fighting bodies and faiths.”
He looked at the knights around him and specified sardonically:
- “Now, no glory or bravery, just sacred duty… Show to all that during all these years, you have deserved well your titles and privileges! If at least, only one child survives, he will remember you forever as true Knights of God! From this sacrifice, perhaps some redemption and hope will come later!”
He then turned to Jareena and begged her:
- “Please, wise woman among the pagans, protect the innocents from this horde of vengeful ghosts. If we are vanquished by their hate, please then don’t sacrifice yourself until all hopes are gone. Retreat among women and the children and protect them from the abomination of heretic possessions if you can, but look also for Rotterex, as he knows secret ways, he may save you. Somebody has to accomplish the Quest and save Fronela from the Kingdom of War!”
Using his Symbolic Sight, Azhur tried to determine which places could offer the best refuges against the ghosts. Within the Kingdom of War, Azhur already suffered from the vision of slaughtered innocent civilians, so he prayed to not see it again. He gave a look on the Red Banner of Valor in hope of some good news, but his biggest hope he searched in the fascinating eyes of Lady Marianne:
- “In this ordeal, only one camp will prevail, he said to the dame of his heart with a last tender smile, the sinning ones created by years of abuses from the old rokari church or the repenting ones of the new reformed church, but whatever the conclusion, I will never forget the pure joy that your presence has brought to me and I will carry it with me like a dear treasure forever, wherever my Essence is doomed to go now.”
Finally, still feeling the strengths of Saint Talor’s blessings in his limbs and mind, he turned to the liturgists and the sorcerers among the terrorized remains of the Segurane population and said:
- “Now, all together, let’s chant the holy blessings against Evil! United in one vision of what should be, let’s call the flaming swords of good king Gerlant and, full of purity and hope in a merited Solace, let’s destroy the enemy!”
He shouted to the troops in terribly ironic laughter:
- “Today is a good day to die, don’t you think? Which faithful knight, which loyal soldier never dreamt once of an heroic death, fighting against the most ugly sin? Caught in some glorious exploit that would be sung after us? Then, if you want your name to be part of the songs, make sure that your children, just behind you, will revere it and will survive you just to be able to spell it correctly to a next generation!”
While a vibrant chorus was trying to raise in the dungeons, in a low voice but with a grim grin Azhur asked to his barbarian follower:
- “SwordSinger, If I fall at the end. Please don’t let them make some foolish rebirth with my corpse. I always wished my skull to be buried among my ancestors within the chapel of Daymare’s castle, certainly not dancing above some heretic undead puppet… but now... well... anywhere near Lady Marianne would be perfect!”
