[OOC]
Plate isn't very useful against grapping attack, I admit it easely, but against some higly acidic stuff, I personnaly prefer to have layer of steel and leather above my skin before feeling the sensation... :-)

Mhumm, let's recapitulate to make sure I understand well..
We have: Azhur's 8W1 vs tentacle's 15W1, right?
(I previously believed that each tentacle was making a different attack on a different target, a chance that we didn't had 100 tentacles attacking the same target or we would have achieved a nice tentacles' traffic jam, resulting into a nice puzzle-game for the bat priests to unknot the demon after th battle... LOL!)

Ok, back to my understanding, as masteries are ignored, so we have: Azhur's 8 vs tentacle's 15, right?
For scores, we have: Azhur's 4 vs tentacle's 5, right?
For results, we have: Azhur's success vs tentacle's success, still right ?
In my book of HQ rules, I have: Success vs Success = "Low roll receives marginal victory, else tie"

Lower roll is 4 (Azhur's one), so marginal victory should be for Azhur instead of the tentacle, no?
(I think that the tentacle's unique matery can't both bump up its success and reduce Azhur's success).

Rephrasing humbly the GM...
a marginal victory for Azhur, is the Bat spending any Hero Points? ;-)

Anyway, I think I will spend the 1HP to avoid this low victory at the expense of Azhur's plate armor (the most probable price for a marginal victory), and to get a critical against a success thus a minor victory...

or did I missed a point ?

OOC: Good a reason as any :)

Azhur's comments seem to ring true, as over a score of the tentacles
flail about over the Bat's head seeking an unseen itch that it cannot
scratch.

Not this one..

Not this one..

Yes.

Not so useful against a grappling attack.. :)

A total 8W1, roll 4. A success bumped to a critical success.

Now something I forgot.. It has 6 attacks at 20 *each*, not 20 total; so
I rule that as the equivalent of 15W1 (a bonus of +3 per attack,
equivalent of -3 per attacker); it rolled a 5, which is a success bumped
to a critical, bumping your critical down to a success.

Your success versus its critical success is a minor victory for the Bat.
Spending any Hero Points?
