Scene 140: Duck Tower

With the zombie trollkin delivering its message for a conference with
Fwrack the Death Duck the Fellowship confers on solutions on how to reach
the notorious Duck Tower, situated on a small island in the middle of
small lake almost 200 feet across.

The first character to act is Dorassa, who takes some rope and makes
prayers to Vinga, the daughter of Orlanth. A gust of wind appers under
Dorassa's feet and the devotee of the storm runs towards the lake and
leaps into the air and is carried by the wind across ... only some of the
lake, falling somewhat short.

[Dorassa ability 17, roll 8 vs Resistance 14, roll 2, marginal defeat]

Karala mentions her magics allow her to run on any ground. "But this is
not ground", mentions Rikku, and he raises his hands and commands the
separation of the Water runes from each other. The lake is clearly
unimpressed with this request, and resists the commands of the Godlearner
to an extent, leaving behind a seriously damp and squishy trial fit for a
goat to the other side.

[Rikku ability 20 - 3 (wounded), roll 12 vs Resistance 14, roll 13 -
marginal success!]

"Try now", suggests Rikku.

Karala does so, and with relative ease, picking up a pace that would
normally only be seen in the most optimal conditions. A wise member of her
tribe, Karala also remembers to take a rope, which is tied to the other
side so that all members of the Fellowship - including a wet Dorassa - can
make it to the Duck Tower.

[Karala, ability 17, roll 12 vs Resistance 14, roll 20]

Making their way beyond the small broken dock, the Fellowship looks at the
Tower, a fairly impressive three-story stone building of fair workmanship,
although clearly designed for beings somewhat shorter than humans. "Here
best Enlo work", notes The Fourth. "Not there", he waves back across the
lake. "Here best", he emphasises again, and nodes sagely.

As the Fellowship prepares themselves, they notice the scattering of
zombie trollkin in the various windows of the building, and even a couple
climbing the rough-cast walls with apparent skill or familiarity. Suddenly
the great double doors themselves swing open displaying what can only be a
main hall. As the party looks inside there is the scattering of trollkin
zombies in the shadows, suggesting that there is at least scores of the
creatures here.

"That is a lot of mooks", mutters Rikku.

Directly in front of them is a mighty statue of a duck in noble pose, with
gem encrusted eyes. "Sssss!", hisses Oarssanai. "That'sss the sssstatue of
the duck", he says through gritted teeth, and his claws grasping tighter
on his klanth.

"There is an epigraph on the base", Azhur comments, "but the language is
local. The Fourth, can you read it?"

"Read it I can", responds The Fourth, looking at the inscription. "Says
it, 'Fwarck The Wizard, The New God King of Chern Durel Who Captured the
Ghost of Third Eye of the Solar Storm, The Fourth Face of Zerel Fan, who
converted the Blood Sun to the Black Sun and Ended the Trollkin Curse'.
Dated is this year. Maybe already happen? No, Enlo still here", the
trollkin says, tapping his chest.
