Karala did bid her Reindeer spirit follow the mad Duck from a distance
[1], and indeed it did so. As a creatue of spirit it was not bound to the
ground, any more than it was to the sky and could move according to the
Power vested in it. Although rain fell onto the marshy ground, the spirit
moved with ease and speed ever attentive of the purple triple-headed chaos
dragon and its heretic duck rider. But the Amethyst Dragon of Chaos also
flew with great speed, and the Reindeer spirit had to be especially
attentive of its trajectory, least it fall behind. Close enough to remain
in range, not too close to be noticed, as the spirit was sure that it
could be detected by the magics of either the dragon or the priest.
Out of the swamplands of coastal Koromandol, and into the plains and
rolling hills the dragon did fly. On occasion, it would find humans, or
trolls looking at it in fear and wonder. The dragon would spit sticky
blobs of gorp at those it would spy below and then swoop down and consume
them in their death throes. Rapidly, the dragon grew larger, and where it
excreted the land became even more blighted than it already was. The
Reindeer Spirit continued to follow, ever so cautious, never attracting
attention to itself. Light of foot in life, quiet of spirit in this world.
The mad duck and the purple chaos dragon entered the Kingdom of Ignorance,
where the mighty mystic Can Shu held sway. Here one would expect that
there would be opposition, for the Dragon had grown very large by now, the
size of a small castle. But no great force did come - just a few platoons,
piecemeal, which the Dragon made very short work of. Still the Reindeer
did follow, for that is what Karala commanded of it.
Eventually, the Dragon and Duck rider reached the western borders of the
Kingdom of Ignorance, the broken hills of Jankley Bore. There the Dragon
did land as darkness fell on a high peak, and the Duck dismounted and
looked around in a trance-like state, as if it was searching for
something. But a hidden spirit may often reveal itself to a less dangerous
entity first, especially if it seeks information. A spirit of light, fire,
and movement sped from one rocky outcrop to another. The Reindeer spirit
sought to retreat, but this spirit was faster, more powerful, and new the
secrets of these lands.
All of a sudden it appeared in front of the Reindeer, who tried as hard as
it could not to fall in terror. It was burning ball of spiritual fire that
spoke.
"I am the third eye of Sun Storm. Who are you, ghost? And why do you
follow creatures of chaos and madness?"
