Knarl grabs Aalmon and says to him. We must get back to the others. There is no way we can interfere with these rites without dying. He then turns and starts back to headquarters.
Lev Lafayette <lev_lafayette@yahoo.com.au> wrote:
Scene 47: The Ritual at Asgolan Valley

Firstly, welcome back everyone! Hope you had a good
'Sacred Time', whatever that may consist of you for
you. Over the next few days I'll give a summary of
where each of the three (!) groups are up to. Firstly,
let's move the spotlight some leagues to the south as
night falls on the famous Asgolan Valley...

It was a trivial matter for Knarl Talonrake and Aalmon
Far-Rider the Moon Mage, to distract two bored militia
members with a distracting whimper from Knarl's
brother. How surprised they were to confront the
growls of the
Telmori and the courier who's eyes shone
with the reflection of the moon when they came to
investigate! Before they could even begin to cry out,
they were on the ground, pleading for their miserable
lives. Aalmon distracted the pass phrases from them
and relieved them of their cloaks and weapons, and
Knarl sent them into unconsciousness after this
information had been acquired. Knarl and Aalmon
dressed themselves in their new garments and headed
into the bulk of the army as Knarl's wolf brother
watched over the bodies in the bushes.

Lit only by torches, starlight and the soft red glow
from the distant moon Knarl and Anzhur had little
difficulty moving among the army. A religious service
of sorts was being conducted, and most attention was
devoted to that practise. Members of the Undead army
chanting praises to Vivamort, and called upon the
bones and the spirits within to rise again for battle.
Enthusiasm varied;
among the soldiers of Nolos, it was
conducted with the vigour appropriate to Initiates of
a cult; among the mercenaries and militia, at the
standard of lay members.

In the centre grouping where the banners of the Church
of Rokari and Nolos. At a closer range both Knarl and
Aalmon could see that they were also accompanied by
ghouls and ghosts, in addition to previously espied
zombies and skeletons. In the very centre of the
ritual was the vampires, and in the centre of the
vampires Theoblanc himself and several priests of the
Rokari. Here the chanting was bordering on frenzied
shouting, calling upon the Knights of Bailifres to
rise again and fight for the Kingdom of Seshnela
against the beast, against the pagan, against the
heretic, against the invader. A number of militia were
drained on the spot by Vampires, the bodies collapsing
on the ground unconscious or dead.

And to the horror of Knarl and Aalmon they
came; first
at the centre then spreading throughout the
encampment. The earth itself churned, and bony finger
clawed their way out of the ground, dressed in old
rusty armour, bearing broken shielf and sword, but
still they came. First in dozens, then in scores, then
in hundreds and then even hundreds more until the army
of Theoblanc swelled in numbers, increasing again by
another two score companies. The Vampires and the
Priests were clearly exhausted by this practise, for
it would require great amounts of Power to engage in
such a ceremonial summoning. But the time was right,
the call was right, the support was many and here - of
all places - was most ideal to conduct such magics.

____________________________________________________________________________________
Be a better friend, newshound, and
know-it-all with Yahoo!
