Never, in all his lives, had The Seeker been so troubled. All through
those lives he had learned the right thought, and right action, the
duty of his being. A small crested dragonewt, the notion of balance
between aggression and passivity, bravery and cowardice, as a beaked
warrior, the balance between leader and follower, and in this
incarnation as a tailed priest, between honour and dishonour, patience
and immediacy. Thoughts bounced around the Seeker's head, causing great
pain. The Seeker raised his claws to hold this head, as he stumbled
about on the rocky hillside, eventually falling to his hunches, Talor's
flail, squashing itself between his tail and legs. He grimaced.
Breathing deeply, he remembered so many years ago what the Tailed
Priest of the Mournsea Isles had told him; that he must join the quest
to recover the weapons of Talor's Fellowship, borne of a prediction of
the return of the great chaos and potentially the destruction of
Glorantha. The Seeker shook his head slowly. The destruction of all of
Glorantha! So many stories from so many people predicted such a thing,
and it *always* had to do with Chaos. And now it had appeared, as a
Chaotic dragon than spanned hundreds of leagues.
What does this blasphemy mean to the Seeker's notion of the Cosmic
Dragon? The Seeker closed his eyes and began to cycle through the
oldest prayer, recited by all Dragonewts, over and over again: "O...
Ou.. Our.. Ouro... Ourob... Ourobo... Ourobor... Ouroboro...
Ouroboros... O... Ou.. Our.. Ouro... Ourob... Ourobo... Ourobor...
Ouroboro... Ouroboros... O... Ou.. Our.. Ouro... Ourob... Ourobo...
Ourobor... Ouroboro... Ouroboros..."
But the pain did not go away. The chaotic thoughts, and the harsh
confusions did not go away. And Seeker realised what was happening. He
was dying, again. And he knew, as he began to fall into a fitful sleep,
that he must use his nous to determine what was the true nature of this
Chaotic Dragon that covered half a continent, greater than any of the
True Dragons themselves.
