Yes but gamers love to roll lots of dice.

Hell, my girlfriend doesn't roleplay, but she still comes and plays with my dice. Rolls 'em, picks out which roll best, spins 'em, stacks 'em up...

  It's the potential to be more of a imagination stimulator - they can have pictures and words.  Which are more interesting than just numbers..
  And cards are as tactile as dice, and can be played with in more variation.
