Well on one side, i think that using the banner could be a convenient base for the guardian
- it has already mixed links : a malkioni family, trollish positive reaction and perhaps more who knows ? (does its red color means something special for exemple?)
- it has already a very old story and nobody knows all of its powers for the moment (perhaps it is already a dormant guardian of some kind ?)
- It has already a "truce and negociation" at 14, a proof of strong magical power
But on the other side, it is strongly linked to Azhur's own story and inner development, so I fear that this background facts will give an odious priority among the equal member of the fellowship and I don't wish to kidnap a main backbone of the storyline for my little narcissic pleasure.
(but it can also be seen as a chance for other players to have a grip on such developments, so?).
Everything probably depends on the roleplaying we have :-S
I'm really in balance here. I need your opinion to make my idea.
Azhur being on the verge to finally accept compromises with pagan, barbarian, monstruous and alien (even vegetable? ;-) forces present in and around the fellowship, I think that we can easily manage any solution and perhaps Azhur's new position of liturgist will help.

Actually probably a good time as any to do this.
A grotaron is a guardian? Well that's a possibility...
Actually, I can see that there will be a bit of
interparty conflict over what form this guardian
takes.
The Western Church usually uses a reliquary, so I
presume Azhur will be promoting that angle for
example...
Heck maybe even the Banner can become the Guardian!
In any case you'll need a method, communications,
guardian requirements and magical functions.
1) The method can be a an insubstantial being
(archetype), an emanation (usually embodied in a
physical object), or a manifestation (a person - e.g.,
the grotaron).
2) The communications system can either be to a party
leader, or to the group. It can be via symbolic
manifestations, encoded language or normal speech.
It's up to you.
3) The requirements are of course a restriction of
some sort that the guardian requires each member of
the fellowship to engage in, otherwise it will withold
its magic. Again, I'm open to suggestions.
4) The three functions are Awareness, Blessing and
Defense. These have to be specialised in both function
and form. It has a base of 13 in all these powers and
an additional 15 points that you can distribute as you
like (typically 18 in all three is chosen). To
increase these it requires +1 Hero Point per member of
the band. Note that followers are *not* members of the
band unless Hero Points are expended for them..
In addition to this you'll need to narrate how the
guardian was discovered and how the hero band is
formally established. The membership requirement is
pretty obvious (seek the weapons of Talor).
