Julz,
I agree with your idea, but don't forget that we are still in the malkioni range of civilization.
For exemple obediance seems to be a major trait for western civilizations, beginning with the Brithini. To me, that why Arkat was such a sacrilege.

Now that where my english betrays me :
- Social mobility as an ability ? Could you detail what you mean ?
- Self-Righteous ? Hu... I understand the words but not the meaning 
- Evangelical, yes why not
- Smug, I didn't know the word at first, but my dictionnary tells me it's perfect.

Loskalm's Egalitarism vs Elitism paradoxe reminds me of RW France  : 
"we are all equal, but some more than other..." :-D

OK, I think that Loskalm people should have a different feel than those dour, misguided, hide bound, Seshnelans. 

I would suggest that we add  Social Mobility to the list of native abilities that Loran proposed.  I would also suggest that we replace the typical personality traits with Self-Righteous, Evangelical and Smug.
