In the midnight stillness of the forest two shadows moved quietly. For
Aalmon it was the first quiet moment in which to reflect, if the claws,
fangs and weapons of the undead had been dangerous then this quietness
was a different kind of danger. Here, hidden from view of the stars by
the trees above, a man could lose his bearings easily. With time to
think he thought too much and the smell of the chaos thing around him
forced old memories back to him. An old problem forced its way back into
his mind, a paradox that led to bad places and yet which he could not
banish. His mind drifted back to teachings and lessons that the blessed
stars had let him forget, they crowded back into his mind and refused to
be forgotten once more. With them came an old frame of mind, the
attitude and outlook that he had begged the stars to cleans him. A
strange mood came over him and would not let go.
Yet around him nothing changed and if his mind had changed there was no
outward sign, for his best path still lay ahead. The gold behind him
tempted him for a moment but he waved the temptation away, mere money
would not sate his ambition. His eyes pierced the darkness as the
silence was broken by the noise of approaching men, so many men that it
could only be an army. He watched the men and seeing their manner moved
along the line, watching each group of men in turn to judge their manner
and behavior knowing that soldiers who fear the officers behind them
think more of what is over their shoulder than what might be ahead of
them. In front of the least tense group of soldiers he decided to make
his move. Shifting nervously in his saddle he spoke to the Beast "I
would be grateful if you could watch my back - and let the others know
if something goes badly wrong here."
With that he put a glowing silver amulet back within its resting place
inside his shirt and the shadows seemed to lift off him, revealed he sat
with a flag of truce tied to the long handle of his axe. He kicked his
horse into motion and rode towards the enemy lines calling out as he
approached "Parlay, the merchants have an offer you should listen to."
OOC: This scene to be inserted into the storyline when most appropriate.
Lev, having thought it through I think there is most fun to be had if
Aalmon slips back into occlusion. This is going to reveal some
back-story that has been hidden up till now (he studied in the
Minderkind school and their weird logic is what drove him mad). Anyway
he currently has a personality trait of Bastard at a rating of 3W so
expect some arrogant, selfish and vindictive behaviour.
