The moon man muses out loud as he looks around for one of the rocks of
the plateau
"When I freed Icthya from Lunar captivity a strange woman gave me a
prophesy - that at the end I would be in battle with the devil himself.
Afterwards I realised that she did not say which side I would be on,
which is the sort of thing that gets a man thinking. I want to be a man
who has the courage to stand up to the terror of oblivion and line up on
the side of life and humanity against evil but I know that his army will
not be made up of those who love him but of those whose courage has
failed them. Will my courage fail me? I can hope not but until the time
comes I cannot know it any more than any other man."
He picks up a rock and turns it over in his hand, waiting to see if it
like all the others will change through the colours of the moons "As to
which colour moon is mine, I am not sure which colour the moon should be
any more. I spoke with Jar-Eel herself and afterwards my doubts were
even stronger, did the rich and powerful of the empire bleed the people
dry to keep the moon red against its nature? I think at that moment my
sympathy for the white moon, my feeling that the moon is a thing of
change not of any one colour forever, nearly got me killed. It is not
for me to tell the moon which colour it should be yet when I look at the
rocks of this place they speak to me of what has been and what will be."
"And then there is the other question. I was taught the philosophies of
Nysalor, I have walked the paths of Arkat. Sooner or later there will be
a confrontation and only one will be left standing, as it was in the
first age I hope the one remaining is not Gbaji. I have had my fill of
prophesies, they give me some hope that the holders of the weapons can
help defeat Gbaji but no certainty."
"As for the sword? I do not want the sword. Its reputation is enough to
fill me with dread. I came to speak with its keeper and to try to win
his aid."
