1615 ST: Storm Season
The day started will ill-news, as the Duke's daughter, Jezra, has been
declared missing. Worse still, the Duchess had fallen ill to some
strange sickness and healers have been sent to Horn Gate to aid against
a plague. The daughter had been taken by the Tusk Riders in Nosferal's
tower and demanded a ransom which the Duke could not afford. His
right-hand man, the ever-loyal Daine, has offered to attempt entry, but
the Duke saw the sense of sending the mercenaries to do the duty they
had been paid for. The Duchess took a moment to plead to the assembled
characters to rescue their daughter.
With the aid of the Duke's newtlings, the mercenaries took the river
route to the Tower. Along the way they encountered, once again, giant
frogs. When passing Five Eyes gorge the newtlings were particularly
quiet and when asked about this later they informed those present that
this was the home of a strange newtling cult with their own great
spirit.
On the way to the tower, the party encountered a patrol of two tusk
riders who attempted to charge the larger group. From cover, Phoebe
befuddled on of the tuskers whilst upfront Strides charged another with
an inevitable collision. Although bashed by the much heavier tusker
Strides did not fall, much to the amazement of all who witnessed this.
Eventually with both spear and spell one of the Tusk-Riders was felled
and the other retreated.
Upon reaching the Tower of Nosferal, the party viewed the area. The
tower was located in a desolate area, with even large rocks moved away.
The smooth surface of the two story building denied any easy possibility
of climbing, except for perhaps the chimney. The ground floor was barred
with a great door, that showed many signs of battle but none of entry.
There were windows on the first floor.
After a while, Tuskers came to the window to jeer at the characters;
they had with them Lady Jezra and demanded to see the ransom that they
had demanded. The party engaged in some deception here, partially
filling the top of a knapsack with gold and silver, so it glinted under
Yelm's watchful gaze. In the meantime, Honest John sought entry to the
tower away from the eyes of the Tuskers.
The ruse proved doubly successful; not only did one Tusker come
downstairs to check the ransom, Honest John entered the upper floor. The
party rushed the lone Tusker, breaking into the tower as others members
of the party entered through the rope left by Honest John. Within the
tower a mighty battle ensured, and for a while it looked very close for
the Tuskers had a Rune Lord among their number. Eventually however they
were all defeated, but not without the loss of Phoebe, who fell
unconscious from the Tower and was taken by a Tusker who escaped the
carnage. Amazingly, Praxilites expressed immediate concern for her
welfare once this was known.
Searching throughout the Tower, the party eventually found Jezra
manacles in a dungeon; both angry at her situation and overjoyed, she
expressed immediate affection to Red Mouse before she was even released.
Then the party journeyed further, finding a lower level. Contrary to
rumour there appeared to be no vampire present, but there was skeletons
that walked! However the brittle bones were quickly destroyed, leaving
the path clear for the party to return to the Duke having successfully
rescued Jezra.
